This page covers what The Agent Idea collects when you sign up, why, who handles it, how long we keep it, and how to unsubscribe or have it deleted.
Who we are
The Agent Idea is a free email newsletter about real businesses run by AI agents. We’re the controller of the personal data on this page, which means we decide how it’s used. For anything here, email theagentidea@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Your email address. It’s the only thing the sign-up form asks for.
- A record of your consent. That’s when you asked to sign up and when you clicked the link in our confirmation email.
- Short-lived counters to stop abuse. To stop people misusing the form, we count recent sign-up attempts. The counts use a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address and your IP address, and they delete themselves within 70 minutes.
There are no cookies, analytics or tracking pixels on this website. We’ve also switched off open and click tracking in our emails.
Why we use it
We use your email address to send you The Agent Idea and the confirmation email that starts your subscription. Our lawful basis is your consent. You give it by signing up and then clicking the confirmation link, and you won’t get a newsletter until you do.
We also use your IP address, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your email address, to protect the site and stop the sign-up form being misused. Our lawful basis for this is our legitimate interest in keeping the site and the form safe from abuse. You can object by emailing us.
We never sell your email address or share it with advertisers.
Who handles it
Two companies handle data for us as our processors:
- Resend sends our emails and keeps our subscriber list. Our emails are sent from Resend’s servers in Ireland, but Resend stores our subscriber list and all account data, including email metadata, logs and API records, in the United States (Resend: Regions). It lists the companies it uses in turn on its subprocessors page.
- Cloudflare hosts this website, runs the sign-up form, and stores the consent records and anti-abuse counters described above. Like any website host, Cloudflare also processes your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks.
Resend and Cloudflare both handle data in the United States, so your data leaves the UK. Resend is currently certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, known as the UK-US “data bridge”. Its data processing agreement also includes the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Cloudflare is also currently certified under the UK Extension to the Data Privacy Framework, which it relies on for transfers to the US. Its data processing addendum includes the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for any transfer that certification doesn’t cover.
How long we keep it
- Resend keeps a copy of every email we send, including the confirmation email, along with its delivery logs, for 30 days. Then it deletes them.
- If you sign up but never click the confirmation link, you’re never added to our list. The link stops working after 72 hours, and we delete our record of your request within 7 days. Resend deletes its copy of the confirmation email after 30 days.
- If you confirm, we keep your email address for as long as you stay subscribed.
- When you unsubscribe, we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so we don’t email you again by mistake. If you’d rather we deleted it completely, email us and we will.
- If you use your email app’s unsubscribe button on our confirmation email, you’re never added. We keep a scrambled (hashed) note of your address, so we won’t email it unless you sign up here again. If you do, we’ll send you a new confirmation email.
- If our emails to your address bounce permanently, or you mark one as spam, we stop emailing that address and keep a scrambled (hashed) note of it so we don’t email it again.
- The anti-abuse counters delete themselves within 70 minutes.
How to unsubscribe
Every issue has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and you don’t need to log in to use it. Our confirmation email works with your email app’s own unsubscribe button. If you simply don’t click its link, you’re never added. You can also reply to any issue, or email theagentidea@gmail.com, and ask us to take you off the list.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. You can also withdraw your consent at any time, and unsubscribing does that. Email theagentidea@gmail.com and we’ll reply within one month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Changes
If we change how we use your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters to subscribers, we’ll tell you by email first.
